I’m Ashley Patriarca, an assistant professor of English at West Chester University.

I currently serve as the coordinator for the department’s Business and Technical Writing minor. If you have questions about courses, internships, or possible jobs, please email me to set up an appointment. For the Spring 2017 semester, I also serve as the interim director of Liberal Studies. If you are interested in this program, please call Liz Calderaro at 610-436-1096 to set up an appointment. In addition to working with these programs, I teach business writing, technical writing, and other courses in the English department.

My research interests include risk and crisis communication, social media, grant writing, and professional writing pedagogy. My work seeks to understand how organizations communicate with potentially at-risk populations. My dissertation examined how grantees in an OSHA training program communicated vital safety information to their construction worker trainees. Currently, I’m working on a project that examines how university administrators use plain language to communicate with students.

On this site, you’ll find information about my research, teaching, and service. If you are interested in learning more, please feel free to e-mail me at apatriarca@wcupa.edu.
